Who Let the Dogs Out?
It is a very good idea to teach kids to love pets. Having pets and caring for them instill compassion and discipline among children. It also teaches them to focus on something other than themselves. Of course, not all children will care for animals, sometimes kids will like to have them to just play tricks on them, some of which may be really nasty. You’ve heard of kids harming animals, right, and they really do happen.
A good way to go around this possibility is to slowly expose your child to animals, and check their reactions first. For example, you can show him some animal cufflinks, or ask him to wear them when it is proper, and see if he likes them or not. Expose him to specific animal figures so you’ll be able to gauge what it is he prefers. For example, a pair of bulldog cufflinks may tell you that he really likes a bulldog! If it’s too much for you, you might instead want to get a pug. There are many cufflinks that show animal figures so you can expose him to a different one every time.
Going to the zoo may also give you clues on what he prefers. You just need to pay very good attention to his actions and reactions. Take note of what he likes and dislikes, and observe which ones he strikes a connection with. Of course, make sure that this animal can be domesticated! Pretty soon he might be ready to have his very own pet!
