The Eiffel Tower
There is, perhaps, no greater symbol of France than the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower has had an interesting history, beginning with its construction by contractor Gustav Eiffel and Cie as the entrance to the Exposition Universalle to mark the centennial celebration of the French Revolution back in 1889, it was originally considered by many Parisians to be something of an eye-sore. There were motions to have it torn down on numerous occasions, which would lead to one of the most notorious con-jobs of the great con-man Count Victor Lustig, who had fraudulently “sold” the tower to a group of scrap metal dealers for several million francs during the 1920s. During the Second World War, it was said that though Hitler conquered Paris he could not conquer the Eiffel Tower, having been forced to climb it thanks to some industrious Frenchmen who cut the cable car that led to the top. As a result he didn’t climb it on his second trip to Paris. One of the world’s most famous and visited landmarks, nobody will mistake your Eiffel Tower Cufflinks for anything else when they see them on your sleeve. Silver cufflinks such as these offer a nice sparkle and something quite interesting to round out your formal attire, and are among the many landmark cufflinks to choose from to highlight your own travels abroad, or that of a friend or a relative’s. Especially if you’ve taken the time to wait for an opportunity to ride to the top of the Tower for a breathtaking view of Paris and the French countryside beyond, you ought to showcase such an achievement. You may not always have Paris, but at least you’ll have that.
