The Plight of the Chicago Cubs

cufflinks mlb cubs large 01 The Plight of the Chicago CubsThe Chicago Cubs are known for three things; Sammy Sosa, Wrigley Field, and the fact they have not won a World Series since 1908.  They haven’t even won a pennant since 1945, though they did manage to win the Central Division title in 2008.  As difficult as it may be to accept, but has anyone considered the possibility that the Cubs may not want to win?  After all, their century long streak without a championship in their trophy case has now become an American tradition, something that now links grandfather to grandson as something they, as Cub fans, can appreciate together.  They’re perpetual underdogs, and everyone loves the underdog.  Could it be that the instant they go to a World Series, and defeat their opponent, that this motif will vanish?  It’s something every Chicago Cubs fan should consider.  While it may be exciting to witness something that hasn’t happened in a hundred years, look what you may be giving up.  Because that’s not what Cubs fans like about the Cubs.  It’s their perseverance and their love of baseball that makes Chicago fans love their team.  Just good, old-fashioned baseball where you just enjoy the sport for the sake of the sport.  That’s what these Chicago Cubs Cufflinks really mean, and could there be no better expression for one’s love of the game than these?  Among other MLB baseball cufflinks, wearing the mantle of the Chicago Cubs on your sleeve sort of elevates you to another distinction of being a true baseball fan who appreciates the fun of the game.  After all, there’s more to life than winning.  And just in case they do, you’ll be wearing these silver cufflinks with pride and the courage to weather the change of dynamic a championship victory would bring.

California Roll

cufflinks connoisseur sushi large California Roll Leave it to California to ruin something perfectly good as it is in order to be unique.  Take sushi.  When the first sushi bars began opening up in California in the 1960s it was just fine, and there was no need for anything additional.  Japan had been making sushi for centuries, literally inventing the concept of fast food, coming out with dozens of different kinds of sushi (which always refers to the rice, not the fish) such as nagirizushi and hosomaki long before this nation was founded.  But when Japanese sushi chefs first came to America in order to seek their fortune they found that Americans hadn’t quite wrapped their heads around the notion of sushi yet.  After all, it’s raw fish, and it’s something that most Americans aren’t quite accustomed to.  It was said that an edomae named Ichiro Mashita came up with the California Roll when he merely substituted the tuna in tekkamaki for avocado.  To further differentiate this sushi from others, instead of wrapping the whole thing in nori like he would with other sushi rolls, he reversed it, and rolled it in rice, with imitation crab, avocado, and cucumber on the inside.  This was all to introduce squeamish Americans to more exotic sushi that the Japanese are used to.  Now, the California Roll is served anywhere sushi is served, and in this humble author’s opinion we’re no better for it.  Still, they are tasty, and wearing these California Sushi Roll Cufflinks on your sleeve will tell every native Japanese that you’re certainly not from Japan.  These are silver cufflinks that feature the standard California Roll as we’ve come to know that has introduced many an American palate to Japanese fast food.  Connoisseur cufflinks allow us to tailor our formalwear to fit our personality and interests with bling that captures precisely what we want without eliminating what’s important.  Unlike the California Roll which doesn’t have raw fish in it (krab instead), these cufflinks won’t diminish who you really are.

Lone Star Badges

cufflinks basics lone star large 01 Lone Star BadgesIt’s so easy to overlook the simple and the classic for the complex and the new.  Part of who we are enjoys finding things that can help us enhance our own unique identity even if we feel we don’t yet have one, which is to say that we don’t yet have our own niche style.  So we gravitate to interesting new patterns of color and presentation, often discarding the simple as, well, simple, and the classic as old.  But over time you’re going to realize that there’s really nothing new under the sun, that what you may think is new is really just been redone in a different way.  Take basic cufflinks, for instance.  You may think that some of the new modern designs in silver cufflinks are truly new, but in reality if you just do some digging of your own you find that some of them aren’t really.  So, don’t be afraid to try something simple and classic, such as these Lone Star Cufflinks.  These silver cufflinks are quite readily identifiable for what they are, a circle with a star in it.  You may not be aware, but this is the basic design for the badge for United States Marshals, so if you know someone who is or aspires to be a Marshal these would make an excellent gift.  Even so, they’re quite handsome and will add not just a bit of sparkle to your sleeve but a good sense of style that never diminishes.  The objective in the way you dress is to leave a positive impression of some kind, even if that impression takes something simple or something classic and uses it to that end.  Ultimately, it’s you that has to make the impression.  What you wear is merely the wrapping that the present comes in.

Biohazard!

cufflinks signs biohazard large 01 Biohazard! We’ve all been there.  Well, maybe not all of us, but most of us has certainly been sick, and with summer gone and the cold and flu season fast approaching odds are someone’s going to get a bug.  Even if everyone gets vaccinations and takes precautions there’s always someone, somewhere, getting something that busts through every defense and countermeasure that could threaten to spread among the entire operation.  And that someone could, unfortunately, very well be you.  Hopefully, it doesn’t come to that, but it’s a possibility, and when it does you know you need to work as long as you’re able but at the same time do what you can not to spread your contagion to others.  So you need to keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go, be sure to wash your hands, and limit contact with your co-workers as much as you can.  You can do that by announcing to one and all that you may be contagious by wearing these Biohazard Symbol Cufflinks.  This harsh black and yellow symbol is instantly recognizable to anyone who’s ever seen it before, cleverly set into a pair of silver cufflinks that’ll look great on your sleeve in spite of your health condition.  Sign cufflinks are a good way to signify to one and all what your situation is, or what your goals might be, with a degree of sophistication and charm that never goes out of style.  Stay as healthy as you can, and when you succumb to the Plague, be sure to let everyone else know.

The Financial Basics

cufflinks financial arbitrage large 01 The Financial Basics The financial crisis and record unemployment has shaken the economy to such an extent that many businesses are simply hunkering down to weather the storm the federal government has in store in the future.  Eventually, it is hoped that sanity will somehow infiltrate the foul halls of Washington to restore order and fiscal responsibility to that wretched place, and that may take years.  As the economy recovers from the housing bubble and the numerous inane stimulus packages, many investors and brokers are merely going back to basics to develop value in what they can even while the dollar’s value continues to plummet. These economic basics remind us what wealth really is, and what money truly is, and why the government can’t really be counted on to manage a sound fiscal monetary policy.  For today’s stalwart financial warrior, wearing a set of Arbitrage:  Buy Low/Sell High Cufflinks are a great way to remind him to keep things basic, to remember to build value in the things that we all invest in.  Getting rich is easy so long as you consider building financial value that lasts, builds communities, and lifts all boats as capitalism does.  Financial cufflinks look great on any sleeve, gives us all to aspire to, and can keep our focus squarely where it should be.  Silver cufflinks add a touch of class and sophistication that you’ll need to look your best wherever you go, whether that’s on the trading floor or at a business meeting.  You’re no longer looking out for yourself, but for others, perhaps thousands of others, who count on your success.

Red Wine

September 22nd, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in General Cufflinks

CD 790 Red Wine Red wine is one of mankind’s oldest alcoholic beverages.  Just about every ancient civilization had it in one form or another.  The Mesopotamians and the Persians developed syrah grapes to make a very potent wine that was so strong it had to be cut with water in what were mixing bowls used to serve it in.  The color in red wine comes from the skin of the grape, which may also contain the tannins that give the wine its body and foundation, which allows it to age and grow better over time, until it peaks.  There are three main varietals of red wine.  Cabernet Savignon is a robust grape that can grow just about anywhere except where it’s particularly cold, and produces a dry wine with tannins.  Merlot is a full-bodied wine that hits you with a solid punch of fruit with a bare note of tannin.  Pinot Noir, the most celebrated wine varietal, either red or white, gives you a sublime touch of fruit and other flavors the vintner incorporated in it, more often citrus, tobacco or even chocolate.  Pinot is the hardest grape to grow among the varietals, growing in very particular locations around the world such as California, Oregon, and France.  You don’t need to know all of that to wear these Red Wine Cufflinks, but it does make you knowledgeable about what you love.  These silver cufflinks feature a silver glass of burgundy, and are the perfect set of connoisseur cufflinks for those who appreciate this ancient beverage, a link to our past in a way that is deep and invigorating, and enduring.

Stay Organized

cufflinks cases deluxe black large Stay OrganizedWhen you’re first starting out in life, you’re going to amass a sizable wardrobe.  Man or woman, you both end up having to do something in order to keep your look fresh and vibrant over the years.  Men do have it a bit better than women; men seem to need a quarter of the shoes and outfits that women demand, but that doesn’t diminish the need to keep things looking good as long as you can.  But more important that this is to stay organized.  Keeping your wardrobe organized saves you time and stress.  Simply knowing where things lets you get moving with your day, and gives you that time to do more important things.  With silver cufflinks it’s no different.  They’re jewelry, and rather than storing them in a spare dresser drawer where they’re bound to get lost eventually, keep them where you know where they’ll be at.  Cufflinks cases, like the Deluxe Black Cufflinks Collector’s Case will keep these precious cufflinks in one location that’ll go well with your wardrobe furniture or closet.  They keep the dust off them, and you can look at them through the display window to get an idea of what you want without disturbing it too much.  A sizable cufflinks case like the one mentioned above will be adequate to store the numerous sets of cufflinks you’ll acquire as you go through your life and career, most of them gifts and keepsakes, mementos of service and fellowship with others who you helped and worked with over the years.  Organization will save you health, money and time, and the last thing you need to waste any of that on is your wardrobe.

Vinyl Superior

September 16th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in General Cufflinks

cufflinks music 45 record large Vinyl Superior There are some who say that when it comes to music, hearing it in stereo from an old-style vinyl record sounds better.  There is some truth to this.  You get a deep, rich base theme in the background of any music played on vinyl that digital formats have all but done away with.  The digital formats try, but the key point here is that vinyl records are analog.  What’s the difference?  Well, it comes down to how they work.  A CD interprets music and other information in direct and discrete highs and lows, ones and zeros, in a coded format that is then translated into sound.  In the case of vinyl records, the music is directly interpreted right on the record through impressions on the wax.  The literal vibrations of the sound make the impressions on the wax, so you get a very real sound that hasn’t been translated or digitized into ones and zeroes.  It’s better to be shown the difference between an analog signal and a digital signal through an oscilloscope because seeing is believing.  Real music connoisseurs will look high and low and spend a lot of money collecting old records to enjoy, and they’re sure to enjoy these Old 45 Record Cufflinks.  These silver cufflinks feature an old record complete with the music tracks in grooves that is certain to allow any music buff some pride in showing off what a real aficionado is into. While the rest of the world may have MP3s and MP4s with thousands of songs in a box the size of a deck of cards, the reality of the sound, the feel of being right there in the sound studio when the musician is playing, is somewhat lost with the digital format.  Music cufflinks such as these that just because something is new doesn’t mean it’s better.

Shave and a Haircut

September 15th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in General Cufflinks

CD 1137 Shave and a Haircut Ever had a shave?  Meaning, a real shave from a real barber?  It’s one of life’s great pleasures.  A hot towel on the face for a few minutes to raise the whiskers, real soap lather, and the sound of a straight razor on a leather strop, accompanied by interesting and sometime provocative conversation is the kind of thing that has to be experienced firsthand to appreciate how exhilarating it is.  In our day and age of fast shaves with electric razors or five-bladed smooth gel and soothing aftershaves, the old-fashioned barber shave is something of an exotic experience, that hearken back to a time when a shave might just cost you a dime, and a shave and haircut cost you two bits, as in the song.  Even if you’ve never experienced such a fine shave, these Barber Dime Cufflinks will still look striking on your sleeve.  Featuring an old dime from the early 20th Century, these connoisseur cufflinks add unimposing class and style to your outfit that flatters and complements, rather than shouts with loud and obnoxious color.  Silver cufflinks allow you to personalize your ensemble with your interests and tastes, and these give you a delightful representation of a more civilized, slower time when men weren’t always in such a rush.  Take the time out one of these days to enjoy a good shave and a haircut from a real barber while talking sports or business.  Your father and your father’s father probably did, and there’s no sense in letting such a good tradition die out.
