Back to Basics

June 9th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Basic Cufflinks

My Granddad collects cufflinks. He has over 200 pairs! It is amazing to think that for the past 50 years he has collected all different shapes and styles of cufflink and is still going! He is always on the lookout for a new pair and often asks for some for his birthday so I wanted to get him a pair that he didn’t already have. That proved to be harder than it seemed.

cufflinks basics color black thumb Back to BasicsMy mission was to get into his collector case to see what sets he did have. He hid is case in his wardrobe in case he ever got burgled (which he hadn’t been in the 50 years he had lived there). My wife’s job was to keep him occupied while I went upstairs and hunted for the case. She just about gave me enough time to get up there but he soon came looking for me. I quickly took some photos on my phone for reference and headed back downstairs. Later that night I got onto the computer and started searching for a pair he didn’t already have. He had colored ones and sparkly ones, shaped ones and engraved ones but he didn’t have any basic cufflinks. I looked online and found these black dot cufflinks. They were perfect and he was so grateful for them that he’s asked me to get them in the other colors for him for Christmas! Who would have thought that out of 200 sets he wouldn’t have one pair of plain ones?

Cufflinks for My Brave Son

June 8th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Family cufflinks

cufflinks family a girl thumb 01 Cufflinks for My Brave SonI couldn’t be prouder of my son. He has been through so much over the years that I was beginning to think that it was really going to affect him. He and his wife hadn’t had the best start to their marriage. They had only been married a year or so when they had a horrific car accident. Luckily neither of them was seriously hurt although my daughter-in-law had suffered an injury to her abdomen which had in turn affected her fertility. This didn’t worry them because they weren’t trying for any kids but the time came when my daughter-in-law’s body clock started ticking and she wanted to try for a baby. Seven long and tiring years passed with fertility treatment and huge amounts of drugs and still no baby. My son was finding it really hard to be strong enough for the both of them but somehow managed it. After they stopped trying my daughter-in-law miraculously became pregnant. She took to pregnancy like a duck to water and loved every minute of it. When the day arrived and my lovely granddaughter Aimee was born it was so emotional. It seemed that all those years of pain and suffering were finally over and as a family we could all enjoy Aimee. I was so proud of my son that I bought him a little gift from me to him. It was a pair of “It’s a Girl” cufflinks. They were from the family cufflinks section which I thought was really appropriate now that my son has his own little family. I will never know how my son managed to keep strong through all of this but I can only hope that my cufflinks gift to him will help remind him of the most precious day of his life.

Cufflinks Help Me Make It Through The Day

June 6th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Signs Cufflinks

Coming back from my recent trip to the UK I felt really down. I didn’t want to come home because I was having such a good time exploring the world and meeting new people. I had to come back because I had run out of money and couldn’t find a job. I moved back in with my parents and went in search of a job that would give me enough money so that I could save up and go back to England. My Mom told me that because of the recession it would be difficult to get a job here too and that I really had to impress the people who were interviewing me. She bought me a snazzy suit and made my resume look amazing.

I wasn’t keen on the job but I so badly wanted to be back in England that I didn’t care what I was doing so long as I was earning. I got the job and started the very next day. After a week or so I had began to complain to my Mom that I was bored and not enjoying the job at all. That’s when she got my present out. She had bought me a pair of London Underground cufflinks as a “well done” gift on getting a job. I wore the sign cufflinks every day to work for the next six months and the time really did fly by. Maybe it was because I had such great memories every time I looked at my cufflinks or maybe it was the determination to see those signs in the flesh again.

Cufflinks Reunite Long Lost Relatives

June 5th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in General Cufflinks

I hate getting presents for people I don’t know. I never have a clue what to get them and gift vouchers always seem so generic and impersonal that I hate giving them. So when my Mom told me I was invited to my cousin Michael’s graduation party I was dreading it. Firstly it would be full of teenagers who wanted to get drunk, secondly I had nothing to wear and thirdly I had to find a present for him! I didn’t know anything about him, to be honest, I don’t even know why I was invited. We were never very close growing up as I am 10 years older than him. Now I was being invited to his graduation party.

What do people do when they have just come out of college? Find a job. So what do people need to get a good job? Well I couldn’t buy him flashy suit so a pair of cufflinks would have to do. As I started looking for some cufflinks I realized just how many different types and designs there were. There was literally a pair for everyone! I looked long and hard and finally chose a pair of letter cufflinks. These Letter M initial cufflinks were silver and looked so classy. He would definitely impress the interviewer if he was wearing these! He was very grateful for his cufflinks. I got talking to him at the party and he’s actually a really nice guy. I think I’ll be keeping in contact with him more often in future.

J is the most popular first initial

June 2nd, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Cool Cufflinks

Joshua, Joseph, Jamie, Jennifer, James, Josh, Jordin, Jay…. The list goes on and on, did you know that J is the most common initial for first names in the U.S. It makes sense when you start to think about all the people you know whose first names begin with J. The point is that you could make these poor common people feel better by giving them special letter initial cufflinks.

To be clever you could buy two pairs, one with their first initial, J and another pair with their second initial. If they wear one of each, then they have monogrammed cufflinks so to speak! These initial cufflinks will work for any age group, young or old, conservative or trendy. They are personalized in a small way and at least you know your little brother or your Dad won’t be stealing them, assuming they have different first initials. Unless of course you belong to that TV family who have 18 children and all their names begin with J. They will get a lot of use from a pair of J cufflinks!cufflinkspremier 2028 203112277 70455 thumb J is the most popular first initial

Carrie on Sex and the City made the initial necklace have a major comeback in fashion and it’s popularity was amazing. I think I saw Big wearing initial cufflinks but I couldn’t swear to it. It makes sense a and probably Carrie was the one who bought them. Of course we only found out his real name in the end. Yes, you guessed it “John” J… I rest my case.

How many lawyers does it take…?

June 1st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in law themed cufflinks

There are well over a million lawyers in America and hundreds of thousands graduating each year. You hear lawyer jokes every other day and lawsuits that defy belief are being filed by the hour in the most litigious country in the world! Great news for the designers of these cufflinks; at the risk of being paradoxical, lawyers must show they can laugh at themselves if they want to be taken seriously. If I met a lawyer wearing the cufflinks that say objection and overruled, I would laugh heartily and hire him on the spot. It ‘s a bit of fun and since they have to buttoned up and pinned down most of the time, why not add a little flair and fun to the outfit.

Cufflink designs can speak volumes about people and there are actually versions to suit every type of lawyer, there’s the “Trust me” and “I’m a lawyer” set, I imagine these ones are for the shark lawyer who is not afraid to admit it. cufflinks law themed perfect lawyer thumb How many lawyers does it take...?

The cufflinks that depict the sterling scales of justice are for the more serious lawyer who has convictions and an ethical outlook on the legal system. The gavel cufflinks are for the lawyer who has aspirations to become a judge! Nothing wrong with ambition and the law-themed cufflinks are my favorite. I envision a group of friends laughing heartily, one person is wearing cufflinks with guilty and not guilty on them. Someone poses a question about a personal dilemma or decision they had to make. They ask the friends opinion and the friend replies simple by holding up a cufflink! Guilty! Yes, I reckon after a few beers it would seem hilarious. You don’t have to be a lawyer to try and prosecute your friends!
